Marseille

Founded 2,600 years ago, Marseille is one of the fastest changing cities in Europe. While retaining its distinct cosmopolitan Mediterranean identity, the city has become a major logistics centre for air, sea and rail transport and the location of numerous world leaders in dynamic businesses (such as smart cards, chips, helicopters, petroleum, and cosmetics). Nestled between the mountains and the sea, Marseille is a combination of a rich and unique heritage, a variety of intense cultural activities and an exceptional setting – its bay and its famous Calanques are envied throughout the world. Marseille is also poised to become the capital of the Euro Mediterranean Union promoted by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to bring the countries around the Mediterranean much closer to the European Union.

Marseille has been elected as European Capital of culture for 2013 and is one the major future business hubs in a changing world.
